Winter Hair – A Little Care Goes a Long Way

As we step into 2026, I wanted to start sharing a bit more with you — seasonal hair tips, simple advice you can actually use, and the odd salon update too.

Winter can be tough on our hair, and lately I’ve noticed a lot of you mentioning the same things: dryness, frizz, dull colour, hair just not feeling like it normally does. So let’s talk about why that happens — and what we can do about it.

A Quick Salon Update

I’ve recently started the Kérastase Care Coach Programme, which is a year of extra training and product education. I’ve got some online sessions coming up and a training day in London in February.

I always think the more I learn, the better advice I can give you — and that’s what it’s really about.

Why Hair Feels Drier in Winter

Cold outdoor air + central heating = moisture loss.

Add colour, lightening, heated tools and daily brushing, and your hair can quickly start to feel:

  • Dry

  • Frizzy

  • Less shiny

  • A bit lifeless

The good news? Small changes can make a big difference.

In The Salon

Kérastase Fusio-Dose

When your hair needs a boost, I often suggest a Kérastase Fusio-Dose treatment.

It’s an in-salon treatment that’s mixed specifically for what your hair needs that day — moisture, strength, colour care or body. It’s lightweight, doesn’t weigh the hair down, and you notice the difference straight away. Results last for up to 10 shampoos, so it’s a nice way to keep your hair feeling good between bigger treatments.

Epres Bond Protection

If you’re having colour — especially lightening — I also offer Epres Bond Repair Treatment.

This is added into your colour service and works to support the internal bonds in your hair while the colour develops. In simple terms, it helps hair feel stronger and more resilient afterwards.

Blondes in particular really benefit from this, but it’s helpful for any colour service. Quite often I’ll combine bond protection with a nourishing treatment so you’re covering both strength and moisture in one appointment.

If you’re ever unsure what’s right for you, just ask — I’ll always give you honest advice.

At Home – Where It Matters Most

We’re all quite good at skincare these days — cleansers, serums, moisturisers. Hair needs that same mindset.

If you’re wondering where to invest, here’s how I’d prioritise it.

1. Heat Protection (Essential)

If you use heated tools, a heat protector isn’t optional.

The Kérastase Elixir Ultime is a great all-rounder because you can use it:

  • On damp hair before drying

  • As a smoothing oil after styling

  • Even as a pre-shampoo treatment

It’s lightweight, helps with frizz and adds shine without heaviness.

2. A Weekly Mask

Winter is definitely mask season.

If dryness is your main issue, the Kérastase Masquintense is lovely for adding moisture back in. Using a mask once a week can really improve how your hair feels and behaves.

Even just upgrading to a professional shampoo and conditioner can make colour last longer and improve overall texture.

If You’re Keeping It Simple

If you don’t want a whole new routine, start here:

  1. Use heat protection every time

  2. Add a weekly mask

  3. Consider an in-salon treatment during winter

That alone will make a noticeable difference.

A Few Gentle Reminders

  • Try not to tie your hair up tightly when it’s wet. Wet hair stretches and is more fragile, so it’s easier to snap.

  • A small amount of oil or serum can help prevent moisture loss in dry indoor heating.

  • Consistency beats intensity — small, regular care is better than occasional big treatments.

If your hair isn’t feeling its best at the moment, don’t worry — it’s very common this time of year. We can adjust things and get it back on track.

As always, I’m here if you need advice.
